The ramp-up of electromobility in Thailand offers good prospects for drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions and harmful air pollutants in the coming years. As Thailand is rapidly expanding its market for electric vehicles, the country is also facing a new challenge: Managing end-of-life EV batteries in a safe, economically viable and environmentally sustainable manner. Without proper planning and coordination, valuable materials may be lost, environmental risks may increase, and economic opportunities may be missed. An effective battery recycling ecosystem requires careful consideration of policy decisions, infrastructure development and market mechanisms.
Agora Verkehrswende in cooperation with the Thai-German Cooperation on Energy, Mobility and Climate (TGC EMC), funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) under Germany’s Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN), are organizing this workshop with support of the renowned Oeko-Institut.
The objective of the workshop is to bring together key stakeholders to explore policy, infrastructure and data priorities for developing a roadmap toward a safe, economically viable and environmentally sustainable EV battery recycling ecosystem in Thailand by 2035–2040. The findings of the workshop will inform a report which will be prepared by Agora Verkehrswende and Oeko-Institut.
Agenda-Highlights:
- Status & perspectives: Thailand’s EV battery recycling outlook with international and European insights.
- Roadmap co-creation: Interactive discussions to identify key challenges, solutions, and milestones.
- Prioritisation: Joint prioritisation of milestones informed by policy and industry experience.
You can download the agenda of the workshop here. The workshop sessions will be moderated by Kerstin Meyer and Yannick Thoma from Agora Verkehrswende as well as Dr. Matthias Buchert from Oeko-Institut, simultaneous interpretation will be available throughout the workshop. Following the official programme on day one, we would be honoured if you would join us for an informal get-together, offering an opportunity for further exchange and networking.
