Project: Regaining Trust

How can the growth of electric mobility in Germany be given new momentum? This question is being explored in a new project by Agora Verkehrswende and the Climate Neutrality Foundation.

Preface

The sudden end of subsidies for electric car purchases, coupled with renewed discussions about e-fuels and the phase-out of internal combustion engine cars, has resulted in a substantial decline in registrations of new fully electric cars (BEV) in Germany in 2024. There is uncertainty among car buyers regarding future policies, status of the technology, vehicle cost, and the availability and cost of charging infrastructure.

Our ‘Regaining Trust’ project aims to support political frameworks in Germany that rebuild trust in electric cars by providing targeted analyses on electric mobility. The project will focus on three areas: the private car market, commercial fleets, and charging prices. This will involve gaining a better understanding of the needs and preferences of car buyers, as well as the legal feasibility of different instruments. Based on the results, we work with a high-level advisory board to develop effective instruments and policy recommendations for promoting e-mobility. The project is being carried out in cooperation with the Climate Neutrality Foundation and is supported by the market research institute innofact and the law firm Becker Büttner Held.
