Turning Points: Enabling Sustainable Transport in Africa

Online event with Lerato D. Mataboge, Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy at the African Union, and Ingrid-Gabriela Hoven, Managing Director of GIZ

About this event

How can sustainable transport in Africa be accelerated to pave the way for sustainable economic growth, social justice and climate protection on the continent?

Over the past two years, the Rethinking Transport Initiative, led by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH in partnership with Agora Verkehrswende, has convened African stakeholders from politics, academia, civil society and the private sector to identify key 'turning points' to answer that question. The turning points refer to critical moments, decisions and events that could positively influence the progress of sustainable transport.

We will present the results during the online event. We are honoured that the keynote speech will be held by H.E. Lerato D. Mataboge, Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy at the African Union. The closing and outlook will be held by Ms Ingrid-Gabriela Hoven, Managing Director of GIZ.

Our other guests will be:

  • Edna Mercy (Moderator), Director, Transport Futures
  • Dr Gladys Nyachieo, Senior Lecturer, Multimedia University of Kenya
  • Carly Gilbert, Secretary General, SLOCAT
  • Eric Ntagengerwa, Head of Transport and Mobility Division, African Union Commission
  • Viloshini Naidoo, Sector Specialist – Transport and Infrastructure, Development Bank of
    Southern Africa (DBSA)
  • Dr Helvi Ndilimeke Petrus, Senior Lecturer, Namibia University of Science and Technology

We look forward to seeing you there. You can find further information and the registration form for the event on the GIZ website.
